Unholy Compilations: Candlelight, Deathwish

*crowd chant*   Hail Beelzebub!!!  Hail Beelzebub!! Hail Beelzebub!!

Beelzebub to his acolytes- “Silence you secretly god worshiping heathen scum!!… *silence follows*.. Thats more like it. Now crank up that stereo and let those compilations roll.”

Well here we are with another batch of feel good yet heavy as hell compilations, jam packed with songs of an equally heavy nature. And anything free, is number one on the cards for us Indians.

Ah! Candlelight Records. Ring a bell??  For all you laymen, Candlelight Records is the same international label who’s got our own Demonic Resurrection on their roster. Now to all those who are hungry to gorge on some blissfully brilliant new music, well here is their brand new Winter sampler. But be advised that what you’ve got here is slow marauding music, more in line with the cold and harsh winter climate, which yes, calls for more on the black metal side. They’ve got some real great bands on here and probably those that might have escaped your poor obsolete metal radar. Cheggem below!

Deathwish Inc, who have risen among the ranks to become one of the premier labels supporting the hardcore punk scene have come up with a massive 27 song compilation. Given that hardcore/punk/grind songs are known for their short song lengths, it still does run for an hour and a half. For people who have no idea who or what Deathwish Inc are, well folks this is Jacob Bannon’s label. And i hope you know the fact that Jacob Bannon  does vocals for Converge.

“Bands in order of appearance: Touche Amore, AC4 (unreleased), Blacklisted, Loma Prieta (unreleased), Code Orange Kids, Heiress, Birds In Row, Narrows, Gaza, Oathbreaker, Converge, Hesitation Wounds, Punch, Living Eyes, Mindset, Vigilante, New Lows, The Mongoloids (unreleased), Palm, Whips/Chains, Single Mothers, Stomach Earth (unreleased), Deafheaven, Cold Cave (unreleased), Self Defense Family, and Dad Punchers.”

Album 2

Metal has been around for more than 40 plus years now…. And it has aged well. Bands sticking to the old school style have honed their craft whereas bands that chose to explore the creative side of things have left new genres in their wake. Each decade has managed to spew out a variety of genres and has kept this relatively obscure genre alive and kicking. Come to this decade and we have metal embracing its technical/progressive side. Yes bands have been at it for years, but this new genre of djent/tech metal have us here at the Metalspree camp, ensnared by its complex webwork of instrumentation. The barrage of technicality, texture and digitalized sound gives us this rather alien feel to it.(That’d probably explain the theme behind the artwork from Acid Toad as well.)  Ridiculous vocab goading aside, it is safe to say that we here at Metalspree, love it!

It is at this particular juncture we hit upon the idea to make a compilation that features the likes of both Indian as well as International bands. A joint venture with our close friends in ‘English Djentlemen’s Quarters.’ pretty much answered that.  Featuring 20 international bands and 20 indian bands, the compilation offers a brief insight into the nascent tech/djent scene in India with Skyharbor being its flag bearer, and also exponents(bands) of the established and well oiled International scene.

Here is the official Line – up

The compilation is divided into two: The Indian and the International sections. For the sake of convenience we have also attached Soundcloud links to all the songs on the compilation.

Operation : Restart

The order of the day is hack, hack, hack! This would have sounded more appealing had it been out of a role playing game. Unfortunately this was precisely what we here at Metalspree had to go through the last few months. Our site was laid waste by hackers whom it seems are more jobless than your average internet joe out there. We’ve had a few break-ins in the past but it kinda shot up recently. We initially had no clues as to whether these were targeted attacks or just random ‘taking a shit’ sort of intrusions, which just happened to be on us of course. For either way we were left limping as to what to do with our site. We were barely trying to recoup ourselves when the site was finally hacked ridiculously three friggin times within a span of 3 weeks. More like slobbering the second leg of the limping man down the street just for the fun of it. Due to a major lapse on our part, we never had a backup of all data on the site; quite obviously we lost all content. Therefore we take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to all the bands that have had reviews written about them on our site and also most importantly to all our followers we have gathered over the past one year of our existence.

On a serious note this might as well be a result of our “.in” extension to our site, for our country as a whole has recently been exposed to a spate of cyber security attacks. With all the hacking teams making great headway in hacking into our government sites (which so happens, have just their bare thin undergarments on for protection).  Our site seems to be just another sidequest in their long objective, probably earning them a few brownie points. So much for hacking with a purpose. Hacking despite its good intentions should have been more directed, and should serve their specific agenda of change . Well let us not digress here and teeter off the road. In the end we’ve decided to steer clear of these hackcracks and are planning to shift to a new server and a new domain and get things rolling once again. To be on the brighter side of things, we are now more than ever, better motivated to run this site with a renewed vigor. You will thus bear witness of our inevitable rise from the ashes.

Let me not bore you with our deplorable state of things, since we have some serious catching up to do! Here are a few tracks released this year, that I think oughta be heard. Continue reading
